The Challenge

With an eye on the long-term ambitions of the company, Reel Film was clear that it needed a full marketing strategy that identified priority audience targets and positioning in a crowded market.


As a B2B, film production agency, Reel Film had won several awards for its work and rapid growth. Much of its business had been secured through personal recommendation.


Having grown from a one-man business to a team of 10, Reel Film needed to start planning further ahead, building the business pipeline and establishing a brand proposition that would allow for future growth ambitions. 


Founder Director, Adam Chandler said: “I really needed help in articulating my vision for the business and shaping a marketing strategy, not just to grow the business but to give my new team a reason to feel excited about the future.”


The Solution

Using Adam's personal experience of dealing with clients, combined with an audience survey and desk research, we identified a range of target audiences of key interest to Reel Film, including how they commission and use video, what they look for in a supplier, what triggers them to look for a new supplier, their needs, barriers and behaviours.


We also looked at Reel Film's competitive set, to understand how the market place and potential suppliers were categorised and viewed by potential clients. By doing this, we were better able to understand and shape Reel Film's positioning in the market place and the key messages it needed to convey to attract the right audience.


Having identified the target audience and how to win with them, we worked with Reel Film and its design and website agencies to develop a refreshed brand presentation and a new website. This included articulating the tone of voice, brand assets, look and feel.


Atalante continues to work with Reel Film to support on its annual marketing planning and implementation, from helping with the research and content for white papers and thought pieces to supporting on client-facing comms such as pitch documents and support materials for the sales development agency.

The Impact

Unlike many similar businesses, Reel Film emerged in good shape from the economic challenges of the pandemic and is significantly growing its business and expanding the team.


The clear direction has allowed Reel Film to better articulate what it stands for both for the target audience and for the internal team. They are better equipped to work with implementation partners including a website developer and a sales agency to bring the strategy to life.


Knowing which audiences it wants to target and what it needs to do to win has helped Reel Film shape more than its marketing. It has also driven the agenda for process and skills improvements, bringing the right people on board and growing the right areas of expertise.
